Community Summary Stats - Years selector

On the subject worksheet, there a years selector that would modify the years displayed in the Summary Section of the worksheet. The selector isn't functioning; nothing happens when I click on the selector arrow. Perhaps I've done something that disabled it but any suggestions to get that working?

If you change the number of years from 10 (shown) to say 5 years, you will see the change reflected in the "Recommendations ... ", below. The same tables will then be copied to the Reserve Study Report.

Steve: Sorry if I wasn't clear. The selector simply doesn't function for me. When I click on that selector down arrow, nothing happens. I don't get the years list to select from at all.

Hmm. That is strange. Somehow the file became corrupted.

I suggest you start with a fresh copy of the RFA. Once you open the virgin copy, migrate the data from your existing file. Assuming that fixes things, save the file with a name that you are able to recognize and you should be good to go.

I tried migrating the data to a new copy of v11.1 but it didn't fix the problem. I downloaded V11.1 again and, even without loading any data, that selector doesn't work. The cursor changes from a plus to an arrow when I hover over the selector arrow but nothing else happens. I'm running MS Office Professional Plus 2016 on Windows 11. This isn't critical, just nice to have, if you do see how it might be fixed.

Thanks

Hello Bob,

I cannot say why the RFA in your case is not working correctly ... When you click on the selector arrow, it should display thusly ...

... offering you the option to display 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 years.

I am unable to duplicate what you are experiencing.

I will perform a bit more investigation and let you know the outcome.

Steve

Hi again,

I wanted to see if the file may have been corrupted in the ZIP file. I just downloaded the file from here ...
No issue at all.

Hi Bob,

The only reason I can find that may cause your copy of Excel to not perform as expected is that you may have disabled ActiveX controls. There are several possible reasons:
  1. Security & Trust Center Settings: ActiveX is often disabled to protect against malicious code.
Solution: Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > ActiveX Settings and select "Prompt me before enabling all controls" or "Enable all".

  2. Corrupt .exd Files: Cached temporary files (.exd) can become corrupted after updates, causing controls to stop working.
Solution: Close Excel, search for *.exd on your computer, and delete all instances (e.g., MSForms.exd).

  3. Display Scaling (Monitor Issues): Using multiple monitors with different DPI scaling settings can make buttons unclickable.
Solution: Move the workbook to the primary monitor or match the display scaling on all monitors.

  4. File Location Security: If the file is not in a trusted location, ActiveX may be restricted.
Solution: Move the file to a "Trusted Location" in the Trust Center.

Look at this file concerning security settings that you need to set on your computer.

Steve: I went through every one of your suggestions, including the attached security settings document. Nothing caused that years list to open when I click on the arrow. The similar selector on the Home worksheet functions properly. I can add one thing for you. I saved the RFA file to OneDrive and opened it from there, which uses the web version of Office 365. That version won't run VBA and it throws up a text box saying "Excel for the web does not support ActiveX controls" everywhere you're using that. However, what happens on the selector we're talking about is different. It simply doesn't display it and there is no warning (see image). Maybe that tells you something. I'm fine if it doesn't work. You've already spent a lot of time on it.

Thanks,
Bob

Hello Bob,

A the RFA is too large to run using the web version of MS 365. What you are doing with OneDrive is fine though, as long as you are using the desktop version of Office.

Can you please send me a copy of the offending file that is causing a problem on your end. I can attempt to determine what may be causing the problem.

I'll work through those potential fixes from the Professor. It occurred to me that sending my working file won't help since even a pristine download of v11.1, with no data loaded at all, exhibits the problem with my setup.

Thanks again

I've tried all those suggestions but nothing fixed that selector. All I can say is that selector behaves differently from others in the file (with my setup anyway). It does not throw an ActiveX error when all others seem to, when open in web Excel from OneDrive. Also, I cannot place the cursor in the cell with the years list as I can with the one on the Home worksheet. To me, it appears to all be an image that isn't really located in a cell.

Thanks again for looking into this. I'll just ignore it and maybe it will self-correct someday.

The RFA will not work using web version of Excel. Only with the local copy of Excel.

I understand that. I only ran it in the web version to see where ActiveX errors were generated. That worked nicely. ActiveX errors were shown everywhere you used ActiveX, except on that selector where there was no error. Something is different with that selector but I have no idea what.

Thanks
